Substance & Alcohol Misuse Among Irish Healthcare Professionals

We do not have current levels on substance and alcohol misuse among Irish Healthcare Professionals. International studies suggest that in excess of 10% of professionals may experience problems with substances and Ireland is unlikely to be any different. Excess alcohol use is often very prevalent from early in medical careers. Becuase of access to medications, health professionals are more likely to misuse prescription or over the counter medications than illicit substances.
